How Do You Baste?

How do you all baste your quilts?

I've been using Sullivan's basting spray for years, but recently I learned a new method of using it that has really made basting even easier!

Here's a link to a YouTube video on how to do it.

There's no way I could physically baste a quilt on the floor and other methods I have tried (even with the basting spray) use lots of space and lots of spray.

This method uses very little spray, and the funny thing is, when I actually read the instructions, you're actually supposed to use an iron to activate the spray.

I've also noticed that there isn't any residue on Emily's needles anymore!

For those of you who are skeptical about using basting spray, I would encourage you to try it.

Hope you had a quilty day!

Saturday Morning Quilting

I'm working on those UFOs! They're biting the dust right and left! YEAH!!!!

Last night, I basted Josiah's first quilt. He is in my 4-H quilting group, Quilting Pals, and he's been working on his quilt between meetings. He has the top done and last night, he kept me company while I basted his quilt. I'm hoping to get it quilted within the next few days.

Joey's First Quilt
This is a quilt I did from a kit, I believe. I don't remember much about it. I like it, though. I love the bright colors.

I love the backing that I found. I cannot believe how much fabric I'm going to be using up! It's great.

This last quilt I basted this morning is my Monochromatic Challenge (to myself, lol). It's a Twister quilt. You'll notice that I did use a few gray blocks, but I just couldn't do all yellow. My daughter has already called it, and I backed it in plain gray fabric. I think it's going to be fabulous!

What are you all working on today? I hope you're having a quilty day!

Working on UFOs

I finished quilting another quilt today. That makes four that I have only binding yet!

I also got a good start on my monochromatic quilt for this month. Considering I just started it a few days ago, I think that's good, lol. I'll get some pictures on tomorrow.

I Can't Get Motivated Today!

I did get a quilt basted and another one is ready to be basted, but I just can't get motivated!

Do any of you have those days?!?!?!?

Hope you're having a quilty day!

Addendum:

Well, I found some motivation...in a small bottle of 5 Hour Energy, lol. I got another quilt basted and started the dishes and cooked dinner.

I'm meeting with a friend this afternoon and taking my two older girls to a movie tonight, so I won't be doing much more today, but at least I got two quilts basted this morning! YEAH!

Monochromatic Challenge

I'm going to challenge myself to do a monochromatic quilt each month. I want to get rid of some of my stash, and this seems as good a way as any, lol. I'm going to use a twister pattern because they use big 10" blocks and they go together quickly. Then I'll cut up the rest of the fat quarter into smaller blocks and organize them by color as I go.

These are the colors I'm going to use:

January - Yellow
February - Violet
March - Brown
April - Orange
May - Red
June - Indigo
July - Blue
August - Pink
September - Green
October - Two-color
November - Black/White + Another color

I borrowed this idea from Judy Laquidara. She did this challenge in 2011.

This is what I'm going to base my colors on.

Pink, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet

Rail Fence Baby Quilt

I have another finish! I have finished several quilts over the last several weeks and it feels great. I finished the binding on the quilt while the kids were watching Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs last night on TV.

Rail Fence Baby Quilt
I LOVE my Sweet Sixteen! I named her Emily. I have almost five million stitches on her.

Hope you've had a quilty day!

A Finish

I just finished a baby quilt. I finished the binding during the games yesterday.

This quilt doesn't have a place to go yet. I will probably donate it.
