Quilter's Accountability Report - March 18

I've managed to do quite a bit of sewing this week, and it feels good!

Here's my list from last week.
  1. Continue to work on High Cotton. - DONE - finished another 20 blocks or thereabouts

Two out of four isn't bad, lol.

Addendum:

Silly me!  I forgot to put down my goals for this coming week, lol.

Quilter's Accountability Report - March 9, 2011

Well, I only had one thing on my list last week, and I didn't get it done, lol.

I was busy this week, though.  I got quite a few blocks finished and I started on a new quilt.

We're in the process of moving things around in the house.  We've decided to dedicate a room in the house to homeschooling.  I think that will be much better since the "method" we have now is starting to break down a bit!

Since all the kiddos are in school now, it's harder and harder for them to keep their school supplies together.

Several months ago, we moved our family room downstairs into the newly finished basement.  So, our front room has stood empty for these months.  The kids have been using it as a playroom.

It's a GREAT room because there's a huge bay window that faces south and also a west facing window, so there's so much sun.

We thought about getting some furniture and making it into a "sitting room," but that's just not us.  We rarely have people over and when we do, it's homeschool families, so the kids run around outside and we moms just sit at the table and talk, lol.

So, now we're making it into a homeschool room and I'm REALLY excited.

But, it's going to be a bit of a shuffle of things as we gather up all the homeschool supplies, put up the white board, and organize the bookshelves.

So, I'll probably not have my basting party this week, either.

BUT...I am planning on working on High Cotton whenever I can.  I bought some more pink and brown yesterday.  It's SO purty!

Here are my two favorite pieces.

And here's part of a block with those fabrics.

So, here's my list for this week.

  1. Continue to work on High Cotton.
  2. Start my brown monochromatic quilt.  (I had an idea for it while I was lying awake in bed this morning!)
  3. Next Layer Cake Quilt along block.
  4. Finish and send of Block Swap Adventure block.
Make sure you check out Bari's blog to see how everyone else did this week.

Quilter's Accountability - March 2, 2011

Good morning, Ladies. How is your week going?

Things are pretty quiet this morning at the Svanes household.  It's COLD in North Dakota, and we're not really supposed to get much above zero today.

I did get some things done this week, though.  Here's my list from last week:
  1. Finish and send off block for Block Swap Adventure - DONE, in the mail today
  2. Catch up on Dorinda Mystery Quilt - not done
  3. Catch up on Layer Cake Quilt Along - DONE
  4. Finish Monochromatic top - DONE
  5. Blocks for A Dozen Quilters project - DONE, in the mail today
So, as you can see, I got a lot done this week! Woo Hoo!

Here's my top for the Monochromatic challenge:

Tonight is the meeting for Stitchin' Sisters!  YEAH!  Can't wait to see everyone.  PLUS, I just found out about another retreat that I may go to.  How fun would that be????

I only have ONE goal for this week and that's to have that basting party.  I started counting up finished tops last night in bed and I stopped at 10!

Make sure you check and see how everyone else did on their goals this week at Bari's blog.

Quilter's Accountability Report - 2/23/11

Good morning, everyone!  Here's my list from last week.
  1. Baste the quilts that I have finished - Not Done
  2. Finish block for Block Swap Adventure - Not Done
  3. Finish blocks for A Dozen Quilters - Not Done
  4. Work on UFO challenge and Monochromatic quilt - Done
  5. Finish last border for Shangri-La quilt - DONE
  6. Block 8 and 9 for Layer Cake Quilt Along - Not Done
So, I did get a few things done.

When I went to the quilt retreat this week end, I actually took the Shangri-La quilt and put on the borders first thing.  Of course, that only took a few minutes.

I spent the bulk of the week end on the Hummingbird Quilt which is actually #1 on my UFO list.  I finished that (except for a small border).

I think I'm going to take the basting party off the list and see if that will motivate me, lol.

So, here's my list for this week:
  1. Finish and send off block for Block Swap Adventure
  2. Catch up on Dorinda Mystery Quilt
  3. Catch up on Layer Cake Quilt Along
  4. Finish Monochromatic top
  5. Blocks for A Dozen Quilters project
I think that should keep me busy!

Make sure you check out Bari's blog...and consider playing along with us!  It's fun to be accountable to other quilters.

Have a quilty day!

Quilter's Accountability Report - 2/16/11

Not much to report this week...again!

Here's my list from last week, and I did work on the Monochromatic quilt a little bit.  I also got two of the borders on my Shangri-La quilt.  I have decided to put a third, larger border on and call it finished.

I also had a giveaway this week in which I cleaned out a bunch of fabric that I no longer wanted to work with and it's winging its way to three houses as we speak!

So, here's the list...again...with a few things added for good measure, lol.
  1. Baste the quilts that I have finished
  2. Finish block for Block Swap Adventure
  3. Finish blocks for A Dozen Quilters
  4. Work on UFO challenge and Monochromatic quilt
  5. Finish last border for Shangri-La quilt.
  6. Block 8 and 9 for Layer Cake Quilt Along
I'm going to a quilt retreat this week end.  I haven't decided what to take to work on.
I've never been to a quilt retreat, so this should be fun.

Make sure you check out Bari's blog to see how everyone else did this week!

  2. Finish block for Block Swap Adventure

Quilter's Accountability Report - 1/19/11

Well, if you remember last week, I was in surgery, so I didn't set any goals for this week.

I did get some things done, though, after I got out of the hospital.

I got a little work done on my #6 UFO project, "Wonky Town."

I also finished a block for a really fun group that I joined online called the Dorinda Mystery Quilt.  I think it's going to be a BLAST!

I am really excited about how much I got accomplished this month and looking forward to next month.

So, here are my goals for this week.

  1. Send out packages for February's Let's Bee Together group.
  2. Catch up on Layer Cake Quilt Along blocks
  3. Continue to work on Wonky Town
  4. Finish Clue #2 of Dorinda's Mystery quilt
  5. Prepare for February's guild meeting
  6. Have a basting party and baste quilts that are ready for basting
I guess that should be enough!

Make sure you check out Bari's blog and see what everyone else is up to this week!  Consider joining us on Wednesdays.  I find that writing down my goals really helps keep me focused for the week.

I'll leave you with this photo I just took of the Sun Dogs.

The ambient temperature is -17° this morning...just a little chilly.  Thankfully, the winds are relatively calm now.

Quilter's Accountability Report - 1/5/11

Here's my list from last week. Of course, if you remember, it was formulated while I was still out of town, lol. I think I was just trying to get a handle on what needed to be done when I got home.  I did get a good start on it, though.
  1. Finish a state block that I'm sending to a fellow quilter - Done - needs to be sent off
  2. Block 5 of Layer Cake Quilt Along - Done
  3. The Quilted Table swap - two of four blocks finished

  5. Block Exchange block - block planned

  7. Monochromatic Quilt - not started - need to go through my stash
  8. UFO challenge - worked on designing the quilt with my daughter

  10. Niblet Exchange - not started
So, I made some progress. This week, I need to get as much done as possible because I'm going to be having surgery next week (on Wednesday) and there will be a bit of a recovery time. So...my list for this week...
  1. Get the A Dozen Quilter's project in the mail

Quilter's Accountability Report - December 29

Well, everyone.  How has your week been?

Mine has been a week away from home.

We spent several days in Kansas and now we're in Chicago.

Quilter's Accountability Report - December 8

OK, here are my goals from last week:

  4. Start quilting Robin's quilt - Started
  5. Finish pillowcases that I have fabric for - Didn't do
  6. Finish quilting 1930's quilt...maybe bind it? - Worked on, but didn't finish quilting
I did get some things accomplished, but life got in the way a bit, lol. That happens a lot this time of year, doesn't it?

So, I'll need to clean up some things this week because Christmas is coming quickly...Like gravity, time passes whether I believe in it or not and we're leaving for Kansas in two weeks!

This week, my goals are...
  1. Get the binding on Mom's Wall Hanging
  2. Finish quilting and get the binding on Robin's quilt
  3. Finish the pillowcases that I have fabric for and figure out what I still need to buy
  4. Finish the mug mats that I'm going to make

Also, make sure that you take a few minutes every day to remember what this season is for.  It's so easy to forget when we're so busy.

Hope you have a quilty day!

Quilter's Accountability Report - December 1

Here are my goals for last week.
  1. Finish the pillowcases that I have fabric for - didn't get finished
  2. Begin working on the wall hanging for my Mom's Christmas present - quilting finished...just need to find the binding I cut two years ago, lol (good luck with that, lol!)
  3. Begin quilting my sister's quilt - not done
  4. Clue 1 of Roll, Roll, Cotton Boll - DONE
  5. Block 2 of Layer Cake Quilt Along - DONE
I had another pretty good week.

Lots of exciting things happened...the MOST exciting was that I got my new laptop! I'm lovin' it. Even the transition time (you know, that time that it takes for you to get your old reliable stuff loaded on and transfer over your files that you use all the time, etc) hasn't been too bad.

I also joined a couple of online groups.

The first one is Block Swap Adventure and the other group is Let's Bee Together.

I already belong to a couple of online groups and I am also trying to get a local group started, so it should be interesting in the New Year, lol.  I hope I don't get in over my head.

I'm feeling very ready for Christmas.  This is the first year in a long time that I have been looking forward to Christmas, so it feels good!

Anyway, I should make some goals for next week.
  1. Finish Block 3 of Layer Cake Quilt Along
  2. Clue 2 for Roll, Roll, Cotton Boll
  3. Finish Mom's wall hanging
  4. Start quilting Robin's quilt
  5. Finish pillowcases that I have fabric for
  6. Finish quilting 1930's quilt...maybe bind it?
I think that should be enough, right?  Make sure you visit Bari and see what everyone else is up to this week.  Join us!  We'd love to have you!

  3. Finish stocking for A Dozen Quilters - DONE
  4. Block 2 of Layer Cake Quilt Along - didn't get this started

  7. Continue to work on Quilter's Academy and practice FMQ (free motion quilting) - finished a quilt top and also quilted a small quilt for practic
  8. Continue to work on sewing area remodel - DONE
I did pretty well, I think, but I don't think I'm going to make a bunch of goals for this week.  I think I will get some sewing done, but with Thanksgiving, I'm not sure what I'll work on.  Here are just a few things that I plan to finish this week.
  1. Finish the pillowcases that I have fabric for
  2. Begin working on the wall hanging for my Mom's Christmas present
  3. Begin quilting my sister's quilt
  4. Clue 1 of Roll, Roll, Cotton Boll
  5. Block 2 of Layer Cake Quilt Along
We're supposed to get a major winter storm, so I'll be tucked in warm and safe cooking Thanksgiving dinner, watching football, and sewing.

Should be fun.

Make sure you stop by to visit Bari and see how everyone else is doing on their goals for this week.

Quilter's Accountability Report - November 17

Goodness, I got a LOT done this week!
  1. Practice FMQ every day - missed one day

  3. Quilt my Christmas Tree Skirt - Done
  4. Begin working on Christmas gifts...I asked the adult members of my family whether they wanted a fuzzy, warm pillowcase, or a cool mug mat and most of them answered back, so I need to get those started.  Have you seen those pillowcases made out of Minkee??????  I mean, how fun are those???????  Hmmmmm...I wonder if they make your hair all tangly by morning, lol. - finished two pillowcases...I went with flannel instead of Minkee, lol
  5. Get stuff in the mail...I have those quilt tops to mail to Alycia, Block Lotto blocks, and the prizes from my giveaway to send off, so I'll go to the post office today...WARNING, "I'm coming to see you today, Cheryl!"  (I LOVE my post mistress.  She's SO awesome!) - DONE
  6. Binding needs to be done on a table topper and one of the 1930s quilts.  (Don't you love how I worded that?  It "needs to be done."  As if some binding fairy will read this, sneak into my house one night, and finish it while I'm asleep!  Well, one can dream, can't one?) - DONE
I must have just kicked into high gear for the holidays, lol.
Anyway, I guess I should make some goals for this week.
    1. Block Lotto blocks
    2. Niblet exchange
    3. Finish stocking for A Dozen Quilters
    4. Block 2 of Layer Cake Quilt Along
    5. Finish the pillowcases I bought fabric for
    6. Make stockings for my kiddos
    7. Continue to work on Quilter's Academy and practice FMQ (free motion quilting)
    8. Continue to work on sewing area remodel
That should be enough, I would think, lol.  Make sure you check out Bari's blog and see how everyone else did.  Join us!  Accountability is a good thing!

    Quilter's Accountability Report - November 10

Where is this month disappearing to?????

I've been a bit busy this week because I spent two days in class with Harriet Hargrave.  As you may have already seen, my time in her class truly inspired me.  I still haven't come down off the high, lol.

I guess maybe I figured out what I'm passionate about...or should I say something else that I'm passionate about, lol.  I'm a pretty passionate person in general, so when I love something, I love it with everything within me!  (Sometimes I used to worry that I'd smother my kiddos, but I'm pretty good at giving them space, I think.  Do you ever really know how good you are at mothering???????)

    Anyway!

Well, wait.  I just have to share this with you all!

Yesterday, I was in Bismarck with my oldest daughter and I was talking to her about how much I think about whether I'm a good mom.  And she said to me, "Mom, I want to be like you when I'm a mother."  Well, you can about imagine, I was feeling pretty good.  But then I thought, "I wonder if she can give me a specific example," so I said, "Well, what do you mean by that?  Can you think of something specific that you think makes me a good mom?"

"Yes," she answered right away. "You don't get us in trouble the first time.  If we're not supposed to do something, you tell us the first time and then the next time, we get in trouble for it."

WOW!  That did make me feel good because I really tried to make a conscious effort to do that as a mom and she noticed.  COOL!  Man, I love my kiddos!!!

    OK, back to quilting.

Today is Quilter's Accountability Day, WooHoo!  And here's my list from last week.
    1. Finish one more Twister Quilt - didn't finish
    2. Send off seven tops to Alycia - not done
    3. Continue going through my stash - ongoing
    4. Continue working on my sewing area - ongoing
    5. Make a plan for Christmas presents - done
Even though I spent Saturday and Sunday in class with Harriet Hargrave (listen to me drop names, lol) I did actually get some of my list done.

Plus, I got TONS of other things done...like starting a new blog, practicing my FMQ (free motion quilting), making more practice squares, and learning how to treat my fabric so I an cut my piecework more accurately.

I also ordered a table for my Bernina.

So, what am I going to do this week?
    1. Practice FMQ every day
    2. Continue to work through Quilter's Academy...working on it at least 15-20 minutes a day
    3. Quilt my Christmas Tree Skirt
She's SO awesome!)
    6. Binding needs to be done on a table topper and one of the 1930s quilts.  (Don't you love how I worded that?  It "needs to be done."  As if some binding fairy will read this, sneak into my house one night, and finish it while I'm asleep!  Well, one can dream, can't one?)
OK, I'd better stop!  Make sure and visit Bari to see how she and our cohorts did this week...and join us if you like.  Accountability ROCKS!!!!! ;-)

Hope you have a quilty day!  (Boy, this is a linkful post!)  (And, there's LOTS of stuff in parentheses.)  (I guess I'm letting you into my head today!)  (Scary place, isn't it?)

    Quilter's Accountability Report - November 3

Wow! This has been an awesome week!

Here's my goal list from last Wednesday:
    1. Finish four Twister tops that I have cut out and started - Done
    2. Finish Project Linus quilt and send off along with two other quilts that are already finished - Done
    3. Post block lotto blocks - Done
    4. Continue working on my sewing room - Done
In addition, I finished Block 1 of the Layer Cake Quilt Along.

I went on a bus trip this last Saturday.  That was sure a blast!

I also realized that I'm well on my way to only having fabric that I LOVE in my stash.  I have weeded out most of the fabric that I don't want to keep and it's now in four Twister tops and I have one more to cut out.

I've also been going through my fabric and putting it into color families.  I still don't know how I'm going to store all this fabric, but at least I'm going through it and figuring out how much I have.

Nearly all my fabric is in fat quarters, so that influences how I can store it.

So, my goals for this week are:
    1. Finish one more Twister Quilt
    2. Send off seven tops to Alycia
    3. Continue going through my stash
    4. Continue working on my sewing area
    5. Make a plan for Christmas presents
Make sure you visit Bari's blog to see how everyone else did on their goals...and join us if you like!

      Quilter's Accountability Report - October 20

It's been a busy week, but I've managed to get some quilting done, too, so that's fun!

Here's my list from last week:
      1. Bind my Aunt's quilt. -- bound and sent off
      2. Bind 1930's quilt. -- not done
      3. Finish quilting the guild quilt -- worked on, but not finished...still getting used to my new Janome and also, I don't really like the quilting design that I'm doing, so it's kinda hard to finish, but I need to just push on through!
      4. Work on Niblet Exchange blocks -- done
      5. Work on blocks for Block Lotto --  not done
      6. Finish a couple of Twister Quilt tops -- not done
      7. Work on Paganini quilt  --  not done...I'm not sure if I'm going to do this quilt after all
So, I did quite a bit that was on my list after all.

Plus, I nearly finished my Project Linus quilt.  I would have finished, but I was having some trouble with the thread shedding while I was FMQ.  I picked up some top stitch needles and also a special FMQ bobbin casing yesterday while I was in Bismarck.  I'm hoping that will solve the problems.

I REALLY love King Tut thread for quilting but evidently, my Janome doesn't, lol.  I'm not giving up, though.  I'm determined to find a combination that we can both live with, lol.

So, my goals for this week are as follows:
      1. Finish quilting the Quilt Guild quilt
      2. Finish quilting and bind the Linus Project quilt
      3. Finish Niblet Exchange blocks
      4. Finish Block Lotto blocks
      5. Finish 1930s quilt
Wow!  If I get that all done, I'll have a phenomenal stash report on Sunday!  That would be cool.

Make sure you visit Bari and see what everyone else is up to.  Join us if you like!

      Quilter's Accountability Report - October 13

OK.  Another week that didn't go exactly as planned.  It seems like as soon as September 1st hit, things hit the fan.  I thought it was because we added back in our "school" activities (like music lessons, 4-H, etc).  I thought it would just be a matter of "getting back into the groove."  But, it seems like the groove isn't getting worn yet!

It's frustrating, but I just keep telling myself that life is precious and I need to live each day to the fullest...make plans, and don't get upset if they don't happen...these moments, days, weeks, months with my children are irreplaceable and if I live this time in frustration because my expectations aren't met, I will miss what I have right in front of my eyes, in my arms, and under my feet.

I love my kids SO much.  Lord, help me to truly see what a gift they are!

      Anyway...enough of the philosophy!

Here's my list from last week.
      1. Bind 1930's quilt.
      2. Finish quilting the guild quilt.
      3. Finish Niblet Exchange blocks
      4. Finish blocks for Block Lotto
      5. Finish a couple of Twister Quilt tops.
I got none of that finished.

I did, however, get a quilt quilted for my aunt.  I hope to get that bound today so I can wash it and send it off.

I also got a new machine (but I'll talk more about that later), so I'll hopefully be able to FMQ with a little less thread breakage.

SO, here are my goals for this week.
      1. Bind my Aunt's quilt.
      2. Bind 1930's quilt.
      3. Finish quilting the guild quilt.
      4. Work on Niblet Exchange blocks
      5. Work on blocks for Block Lotto
      6. Finish a couple of Twister Quilt tops.
      7. Work on Paganini quilt.
